Makeup Artist Jared Lipscomb

Jared began his career as a sketch artist. Upon moving to Los Angeles, he found a passion and talent for makeup artistry and has been working in the field for over 5 years. His signature clean, beautiful makeup look has found its way onto television, films, campaigns, editorials and red carpets. Jared has worked with E!, Bravo, NBC, Flaunt Magazine, All Def Digital, Sony Music, Evolve Media, L’Oreal & numerous celebrities.

KL: HOW DID YOU GET STARTED OUT IN THE MAKEUP INDUSTRY?

JL: I started off doing drag! I loved all the makeup I’d play with and then started doing it on others. All those fun drag techniques still come in handy, but now with a “less is more” approach.

KL: HOW DO YOU GET INSPIRATION FOR YOUR MAKEUP LOOKS?

JL: I’m inspired by my clients. I see their face shape and skin tone, I see their style, check out their Instagram, see what they like. I’m inspired to give them a look that matches who they are. Makeup is like an outfit, if you feel good rocking it, it shows.

KL: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE JUST STARTING OUT IN THE MAKEUP INDUSTRY?

JL: Learn about ALL styles and techniques of makeup. Don’t just focus on Instagram/YouTube beauty. Let every aspect of the beauty industry influence your work: from red carpets to fashion campaigns to your favorite online guru!

KL: WHAT IS THE MOST MEMORABLE JOB YOU’VE DONE?

JL: I’ve been lucky to have had so many cool jobs, but being a part of E!’s Academy Awards Red Carpet broadcast was definitely a highlight! Being in the middle of the red carpet chaos and seeing it firsthand was a moment I won’t ever forget.

KL: CAN YOU GIVE US SOME EYELASH TIPS AND BEST WAYS TO APPLY FLASE EYELASHES?

JL: I always like to bend the lash strips before application so they fit the curve of the eye. Sometimes I will remove the lashes from the case and wrap them around a (sanitized) makeup brush handle so they curve while I focus on other tasks. Also, always remember to let the lash glue get tacky before putting them anywhere near your eye. You can let the glue dry for up to one minute!

KL: WHICH KASHA STYLES DO YOU ENJOY THE MOST AND WHY?

JL: My favorite style is Love At First Sight. I love how these lashes have a natural wispiness but also a hint of drama with the right amount of length and volume. They’re so versatile and can look soft and sweet or sultry and sexy, just depending on the makeup you pair it with!
